Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron, Napanee, Ontario

Welcome Back!

This week I'm highlighting one of my favourite birds, the Great Blue Heron, or as we affectionately call it, The Heron! We see him (her?) every summer from about May til November. His favourite place is at the bottom of the waterfall at the Napanee Conservation Park. He does some of his best fishing there. We've seen him catch several small fish and even a snake-like thing..possibly a small eel. It was kind of gross to be honest! :-)

We walk around the boardwalk at this park a few times a week and this month, they were fishing for salmon, so we saw some guys catch two of them in the span of 5 minutes during yesterday's walk. Pretty cool!

This was another fast week! Work is going great and is lots of fun and it's keeping me really busy!

Keturah came home again this weekend, so we hung out with her and the boyfriend yesterday for a walk at the park and the mall and then dinner at The Works, for the best veggie burgers in town! Well, Keturah and me, anyway! :-)

Today is groceries, laundry and housework fun (not)!

Have a great week!

Scenic Drive Home

New Brunswick to Quebec

Welcome back! This week I am finishing up the photos from our trip to Grand Manan Island in August 2014.

These are scenic shots of our trip between Edmundston, NB and Eastern Quebec. After that, the scenery looks a lot like Ontario! :-)

This week went by really fast again. Maybe because it was a short week and the fact that I've been so busy at the new job...it's quite interesting and I get to be creative too!

Keturah came home again this weekend, so we headed out shopping yesterday and grocery shopping today. I'm finishing up my laundry and then I might have a nap...fighting a cold I'm sure as I came home with a scratchy throat on Friday and have had a sinus headache the last two days!

Have a great week!

New Brunswick Scenic Drive

Saint John, NB to Edmundston, NB

Welcome back!

This week I'm highlighting some of the photos on our drive between Saint John and Edmundston, NB on our way back home from Grand Manan Island. I believe they were all shot through the window of the van. I chose these as I loved the landscape, the scenery or the cloud formations. As we were coming into Edmundston, we saw the clouds and rain found in the last photo! More next week!

Another week went speeding by! This week I went for an interview at Ecstasy Crafts and was offered a position as their web designer for their two websites. I will also get to dabble in photography, working in their retail store and teaching card classes too! Sounds perfect for me! I will also be working on S Maracle Designs in my off-time as well, as I love the work I do..it just doesn't keep me busy enough! :-)

We got our new flooring on Thursday, which turned out really great..the colours I chose look pretty good, now that we can see them on the floor, instead of just a little sample piece. On Friday, I drove to Waterloo to pick up Brooke so she could come home for the weekend. Her schedule didn't coincide with the train's, so off I went!

On Saturday, we had a Thanksgiving breakfast with Kevin's family. We had a great visit and yummy food! On Sunday, we went for a walk and had our Thanksgiving dinner with my family. It was fun and yummy too, but I ate too much! Today, we have to take Brooke to catch the train back and do some chores, that I will not have time to do now that I'm working outside the home---fun, fun!

Have a great week!

Hartland Covered Bridge, Pt. 2

Hartland Covered Bridge, New Brunswick

Welcome Back!

This week I have a few more photos from the Hartland Covered Bridge in New Brunswick. Here are some details about the bridge (from the Tourism New Brunswick website):

Declared a National Historic Site in 1980, and a Provincial Historic Site in 1999, the Longest Covered Bridge in the World is, like all covered bridges in New Brunswick, a “kissing bridge.” Kissing bridges date back to the years of horse and wagon traffic, when young men “trained” their horses to stop about half way across the bridge, wait while the couple shared a couple of kisses, and then continue to the other side of the bridge.

The bridge was covered in 1921-22, to considerable opposition and concern, and sermons were even preached in the area, cautioning how a “covered” bride would destroy the morals of the young people. However, the bridge was covered anyway. For some years after, snow had to be hauled each winter and placed on the bridge floor to allow horses and sleds to travel across it.
This 390-m (1,282-ft.) bridge officially opened on July 4, 1901 and was purchased by the government of New Brunswick in 1906. Lighting was installed in 1924 and a side walkway was added to the bridge in 1945. It has suffered some incidents over the years, but it continues on, roadworthy and dependable. When constructed, it was an engineering wonder, much as the Confederation Bridge across the Westmorland Strait is today.

In 1987 the Olympic Torch for the 1988 Winter Olympics made its way across this bridge and in 1995 a Canadian postage stamp was issued honouring the bridge.

It's one of our favourite places to stop, either on the way to Grand Manan or the way back! There is also a potato chip company nearby, called the Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company. You may have seen them in the stores! If you pay for the $2 tour, you get a fresh-off-the-line bag of chips when you are done..pretty cool and yummy too!

Well, this week went by fast. I attended a card making class at Ecstasy Crafts with my friend Laurie Ann and we made 2 giraffe cards which were very cute! Also, did some shopping while we were there. :-)

I attended a networking event for small businesses in L & A County..it was interesting and I got to meet a few like-minded business people as well as hand out some business cards!

My niece also came over for dinner and we went out to see a movie. We saw Hotel Transylvania 2. It was a very cute movie!

Keturah came home on the weekend, but we didn't see too much of her..always out with her BF! Her and I managed to do some shopping and lunch on Saturday. Kevin was sick all weekend with a cold, so he stayed home...I'm hoping I don't get it! :-(

Have a great week!
